MP3 LyricReview™ is a parental review tool. It enables you to find the songs (MP3 files) on a PC, download lyrics for those songs, and make decisions about whether the lyrics contain something inappropriate for your child.

(MP3 LyricReview™ is not designed to compete in any way with the many excellent tag editors that are available and offers no significant features in this area.)

Why Do You Need it?

Children have many ways of obtaining MP3 files, including download from web sites and newsgroups, receipt of emails and instant messages, and "ripping" them from borrowed CDs. Some of these songs may contain lyrics that you find objectionable. If your child asks to buy a CD, you can see whether it has a “Parental Advisory” sticker on it. (Of course, that just means that someone else has decided that the lyrics meet their criteria for being offensive, but only you can judge what is appropriate for your child.) But MP3 files generally bypass your review unless you listen to each one. This is time consuming at best.

MP3 LyricReview™ attempts to retrieve the lyrics for your MP3 files by accessing web sites over which we have no control. Their availability and performance may vary. They may change their page formats without notice, resulting in poor formatting or partial or total inability to retrieve data.

The accuracy and quality of the lyrics may vary. Most of these sites contain lyrics that have been contributed by users. These users have varying ability levels with regard to capitalization, spelling, punctuation, and to accurately transcribe what they hear.

How Does it Work?

MP3 files can include information about the content of the file in the file itself. There is a standard format for this information, called ID3 tags. Many MP3 files contain the name of the artist and song title in these tags. This is how software like Windows Media Player can display this information when a file is playing. MP3 LyricReview™ uses this information to search the Internet for lyrics to the song in the file. If it finds them, it stores them in the MP3 file as part of the ID3 (version 2.3) tag.

It then searches the lyrics for the items contained in your "black list". If it finds a match, the file is considered a reject. You can set whether such files are automatically deleted or simply moved to a folder of your choice. You can also reject a file after reviewing the lyrics yourself.

We do not provide a significant list of "naughty words". Everyone has different standards, and the software enables you to populate its "black list" with whatever you feel is appropriate.

What Does it Cost?

The software is free and contains no adware or spyware.
